Chairman’s Ramblings

Since my last newsletter we have had a very successful well attended coach trip to Bude organised by Mike and Mary, our thanks to them and to Pam & Peter for leading the short walk.

Anne has been busy, organising trips from Starcross to Exmouth and a trip to the National trust Lydford Gorge which had a good take up.

Anne also hosted a BBQ at her house which was enjoyed by about 30 members. Thank you Anne for putting this on.

The T&D Ramblers' AGM this year will be on Sunday 4th November 2018.

As you are probably now aware, our Secretary Deborah will be standing down at the AGM after 4 years’ service to the club. So we need someone to put themselves forward to fill this vital role. It is never an easy decision to volunteer for a committee, I decided to put myself forward as chairman, not because I wanted to, but because the club needs these positions filled to function. It really is that simple, no committee, no group. So please give this some thought, the position will be advertised formally with your AGM agenda, so you have plenty of time to give it some thought.

For those of you who responded to our Group email about continuing to receive our emails, newsletter and programme electronically, we thank you, but unfortunately it now is clear that in order for us to continue to do this it is necessary to inform Ramblers centrally as they require to maintain full records. Deborah is not able to pass on your request so if you wish to receive electronic copies of the newsletter and programme, which is of course cheaper for the Group and convenient for you please can you either:

(a) Phone Ramblers on 020 7339 8595 (Mon – Fri, 9am - 5pm) and say that you wish to change your contact preferences so that you can receive emails, and quote your membership number. This is shown on your card but have also included it below:
(b) Go to the follow Ramblers site and ‘update profile/contact preferences’ at http://www.ramblers.org.uk/my-account

I am really sorry to have to ask you to do this but it is easy and quick to do, I have had to do and it took less than a minute.

The new T&D Way booklet has now been revised by John, Mary and Peter and is with the printers. It should be available at the end of July. Special thanks to Mary, John and  Peter  for all their hard work.

The holiday in The Lake District was very successful, 15 of us enjoyed wonderful weather and walks. The next holidays to Chamonix and Bourton-on – the-Water are fully booked.

The next social activity is an outing to Abbfest- a beer festival held near Fermoy’s, Ipplepen. The date is Saturday 22nd September. Free buses run from Newton Abbot Station so we can use the train to get there and back, time to be advised nearer the date. Apart from the beer and cider tasting there are craft stalls, cookery demonstrations and lots more.

We are also planning a trip on the Seaton Tramway, coupled with a walk. We will resume our lunch/dinner club once the summer season is over. Suggestions for future activities are welcome.
