Teignmouth & Dawlish Ramblers

Walking in South Devon

Message Board

Unfortunately we have had to change the Evening Walk planned for Wednesday 25th July as the Manager of The Pig and Whistle Pub has refused us permission to park in his car park
Instead the walk is as follows:

Meet 7.0 pm Viaduct Dawlish (GR 964765) for a walk along Lady's Mile to Dawlish Warren returning along the seawall. About 3 miles
Leader Anne Mc

PLEASE NOTE the Walk originally planned for 25th will become a Tea Shop Walk on 1st September - with a different start point (ie the Berry Pomeroy Castle Car park)

On Sunday 10th September Peter and Pam stood in for Tony who was unable to lead his walk from the top of Sidmouth due to an injured knee.

Using the same starting point, the NT car park adjacent to the Norman Lockyer observatory, they welcomed 14 people who had turned up despite the threat of rain and high winds on an autumnal day.

The route took them to the cliff-edge for extensive views over Sidmouth and the coast beyond. They then descended into Sidmouth before walking up by the River Sid and its parkland before turning right for Fortescue. The strenuous part of the walk involved the ascent up Griggs Lane to Soldiers Hill where lunch was taken followed by an easy return through the woods on Sidmouth Hill Hill. Fortunately, the promised rain only started after the return to the car park.
