News Letter

Hello everyone

As you all know, there have been changes in the way the Teignmouth & Dawlish Ramblers is administered.

In my new role as Chair, I would like to continue our traditions of walking for pleasure, exercise and friendship while encouraging existing, and new, members to get involved in our many activities. I am to be assisted by a General Committee with a separate Social Group, who can all be contacted through our website.

The Spring Walking Programme is currently being worked on so please submit dates and details. I would like to encourage new leaders to volunteer and can provide help with route planning. We are also providing Leaders for the Dawlish Walking Festival early in May and hope many of you will join in their activities. One walk goes around the extraordinary large number of pubs in Dawlish but most of these are (sadly), closed: why did Dawlish have so many? We are also contributing to the Voluntary Groups Exhibition at TAAG in January.

Although we hope that the weather will allow us to continue a full programme of walks, there are several other events which may be of interest. Our Social Committee are sending you a separate e-mail with full details and planned activities and holidays; I’ve been told they have “exciting plans”.

NEW, for 2019, will be a New Years Day walk around the Exe estuary and its hinterland. We plan to meet at Higher Buckeridge Road at 10.30 on 1st January 2019 with a start from the Anchor pub at Cockwood at 11 am. All are most welcome on the walk, which will be approx. 5 miles. The Anchor can seat 20 of us for lunch at 2 pm (their regular menu will be available) so if you’d like to be on the Lunch List please give your name to the Social Group as soon as possible. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  Sadly there are no buses running that day. so car sharing is a good option as parking can be a little difficult around the pub.

For those of you who are enthusiastic about Facebook, we do welcome photos and mini reports about our regular walks; please send to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. These will be posted on our public facing Facebook page; we also have a closed Facebook page where you can post photos or matters of rambling interest to fellow members.

I hope everyone enjoys the Festive Season and look forward to happy times in 2019.

Regards

Claire Glasspoole
